Mission Statement

The HeartLink Foundation supports creative people and effective institutions committed to building more just, vibrant, inclusive and peaceful communities, communities that interact compassionately with all species.

What We Do

The HeartLink Foundation bases its philanthropic activities on an understanding of the interrelatedness and interdependence of life, the inherent good of human beings, the necessity of cooperation, and the right and privilege of each person to experience the freedom to evolve along a path of intelligence and beauty.

The Foundation makes grants through four programs with the intent of expanding opportunities and encouraging responsible action in society.  We believe stewardship requires fidelity to the spirit and to the intent of the founder.  To this end, programs and initiatives may be modified over time to more appropriately address the evolution of society and the environment.

The Foundation also receives donations from individuals, corporations and other organizations and provides a vehicle for responsible and effecting giving.  This ongoing activity strengthens the organization and insures its continuance and the development of its portfolio.  The HeartLink Foundation encourages philanthropic activities and acts as a trend setter for those in any economic bracket who seek satisfying experiences with conscious channeling of wealth and resources for the good of humanity.

Program Areas

ENVIRONMENT — ETHICS — MEDIA — INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT

Environmental Intelligence & Cooperation
The foundation addresses environmental issues with a strong focus on the sanitation, conservation and just distribution of water.

We support the right of all humans (and other species) to enjoy healthy, sustainable environments and to have access to clean flowing water without compromise or undue expense.

Education & Ethics
Through the creation of programs and the support of strategic partners, the foundation provides intellectual stimulation and ethics development for policy makers in corporate, political and educational sectors so they in turn may foster humanistic values within their own institutions.

We believe that by exposing decision makers to more evolved principles and nurturing their engagement with higher values, that more responsible, effective public policy will naturally follow.  The foundation avails itself of these same opportunities for increased understanding and effectiveness.

Media & Public Interest Initiatives
The foundation supports entities and individuals who are producing enlightened, responsible media. We also seek to offset domination of media content and distribution by an elite few through encouraging positive change in government and corporate policy as regards communications.

With attention to fairness and openness in public media we empower marginalized social groups with emerging technologies that they may increase public awareness of their group, and at the same time build strength and cohesion in their communities.

Individual Fellowships
The foundation awards unrestricted fellowships to individuals across all ages and fields of interest who show exceptional merit and the promise of continued work.

These grants may provide continuing education, tools for expression and the means for less stressful lifestyles whereby creative thinkers and artists may focus on projects with the encouragement of a supportive community.

Grantmaking Policies and Principles

The HeartLink Foundation employs an engaged and targeted approach to philanthropy.  Therefore The HeartLink Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals.  It independently defines the philanthropic results or outcomes that it intends to achieve, and develops strategies for achieving those outcomes.  We then seek to identify potential grantees and other strategic partners which have the competence and shared interest to implement these strategies.

The HeartLink Foundation actively and continuously assesses risk and adaptively manages the portfolio of grants to address issues within our evolving societies and environment.  We evaluate potential grants by referring to our mission statement and policies, by consulting as a team with staff, advisors and trustees, and by asking if a project:

  1. is important,

  2. makes a difference and has enduring impact,

  3. has measurable outcomes, and

  4. contributes to the overall gestalt of the foundation portfolio.

The HeartLink Foundation looks to grantees to meet the conditions of their grants in a timely and rigorous manner.  We expect grantees to develop comprehensive project plans, an activities-based budget, and key milestones of grant progress toward outcomes for funded projects.  Willingness on the part of the grantee is key in this area.  If an indentified grantee is lacking in some area of administration or tracking, the foundation will provide expertise and guidance through a strategic partner to assure project success.

The HeartLink Foundation is committed to collaboration, open communication with grantees and partners, and the creation of a results-oriented culture.
